The Denver Adamstown Rotary is hosting the 2008 Arts and Craft Festival in Stoudtburg Village, Adamstown, PA, on October 11 & 12, 2008 from 9 am to 4 pm each day. Juried Crafters and Artisans will join you on cobblestone streets in a quaint village with Bavarian Architecture in a truly festive atmosphere. The European architecture of the village blends the Old World with the New, creating a memorable experience for those that visit to shop and to enjoy the picturesque surroundings. Based on previous Stoudtburg Village Arts and Craft Festivals, it is anticipated that approximately 2,000 to 3,000 potential customers will attend. A variety of stands from local community organizations will be available for food and snacks. In addition to the festival, you are within walking distance of Oktoberfest held in the Brewery Hall, shopping the Stoudtburg Antique Mall and, of course, all the unique shops of Stoudtburg Village will be open. Please help support the Rotary Club, Community Service Projects, as well as the Artisans and Crafters. Crafters and Artisans are still needed for this festival. Shouldn’t your Arts and Crafts be represented by a reputable non-profit group?

The Lower Makefield Historical Society will sponsor a guided tour of the historic Wyck House in Germantown, Philadelphia on Saturday, October 18th. This home, which was begun in 1690 and is the oldest home in Germantown, is a historic mansion, museum, and garden on more than 2 acres. It has been inhabited by 9 generations of the same Quaker family, the Wistars and Haines, who owned it from 1689 to 1973. The British used Wyck as a field hospital after the Battle of Germantown. A reception was given for Marquis de Lafayette in 1825. The Wyck Association now operates the home and welcomes visitors.
Also of interest is a rose garden, cultivated since the 18th Century and known for the collection of heirloom roses. Following the guided tour, we will travel to a nearby restaurant for lunch, for anyone who desires.
Cost of the tour is $5 for adults and $4 for students and seniors. No special ID is required to gain admittance. Food and flash cameras are banned from the residence.
We will meet at the Park & Ride, near Interstate 95 and Taylorsville Road, at 9:30 AM for carpooling to Wyck for the 11:00 AM tour.
To make reservations, call Robert Innis at (215) 493-2354 or email to robinnis@prodigy.net with the names and numbers of visitors. Wyck is located at 6026 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia. If more details about Wyck are desired, visit www.wyck.org.
